LAPAROSCOPY

Key Hole Surgery

Known as laparoscopy, key hole surgery is now the preferred method of dealing with Gynaecological surgery for all sorts of problems across the world.

The main advantage is much less pain and quicker recovery. In some cases patients recover well enough to go back to work the following day. It only requires a few small incisions on the abdomen, smaller than the width of your little finger. It is much less disfiguring than a large abdominal cut and safer overall with fewer complications.

The following is now available to be performed via laparoscopy.

Endometriosis treatment (a condition that causes pain and infertility)

Investigation of Infertility (problems falling pregnant)

Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus or womb)

Ovarian cystectomy (removal of cysts from the ovary)

Myomectomy (removal of fibroids) link to lap myomectomy page

Fallopian Tube Surgery (tubal reversal) link to that page

Prolapse Surgery (uterine prolapse, cystocele, rectocele) Where there are lumps in the vagina from defects in the pelvic floor

Ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb)

Investigation of pelvic pain

Dr Soo is up to date and well trained in performing laparoscopic surgery completing 99% of his abdominal surgery via laparoscopy and with less than expected complications. He now spends a large proportion of his time teaching and lecturing other Gynaecologist colleagues and junior doctors the skills necessary for safe and effective laparoscopic surgery. He feels that there is now little reason to perform a large incision on the abdomen for most of Gynaecological surgery.

Dr Soo however will endeavour to treat all Gynaecological problems without surgery if possible as the best way to avoid unnecessary complications or problems is to avoid unnecessary and unsafe surgery altogether.
